Installation

What should I do if I get a message saying “Insufficient Memory . You do not have enough space to install this package. You need an additional xxxK of available memory”?

If your using a Windows computer make sure you are using the "Alternate" download for Windows only on the download page.

For the trial go here to download: http://celeris.com/games/VPMobile/downPalmTrial.html

For the full version go here to download: http://celeris.com/support/VPMobilePalm.html

If you are on a Mac you need to free up more memory. You can try soft resetting your Palm and see if that frees enough memory. If not you may need a utility like UDMH to run Virtual Pool Mobile. UDMH is not endorsed or supported by Celeris  and  is a "use at your own risk" application.

What should I do if my registration id does not work?

Your HotSync name must match the Owner Name in your receipt. Check your HotSync name by selecting HotSync from Launcher. The HotSync name is displayed on the upper right of the HotSync utility. To change the HotSync name start your Palm Desktop and select the pull down in the upper right hand corner, then select Edit Users. Select the name you want to change and select Rename.  If you need a new Owner Name, contact support@celeris.com and send your new Owner Name and your purchase number.

Where does the Installer put Virtual Pool Mobile?

Virtual Pool Mobile will not install to main storage. It must go on an SD card, Internal flash, or disk drive. The installation automatically goes to the default alternate storage. For SD cards the files go in /PALM/Launcher. For internal flash or disk drive it goes in /Applications.

Problems Running Game

I can't find Virtual Pool Mobile in Launcher. Where is it?

Virtual Pool Mobile is installed to alternate storage (SD, NVFS, disk). To access programs on alternate storage pull down the menu on the top right of laucher. At the bottom you will see something like CARD or INTERNAL. Select that and it should show you the Virtual Pool Mobile icon. If your using an after market launcher the procedure varies:

ZLauncher - you can create a shortcut to Virtual Pool Mobile.  To create a shortcut select first go to the Virtual Pool Mobile installed directory by selecting Internal or Card (depends on where it was installed to).  For Internal, Virtual Pool Mobile is in /Applications. For Card Virtual Pool Mobile is in /PALM/Launcher. Select and hold the Virtual Pool Mobile icon until the menu appears. Choose "Short Cut". You will now have a short cut icon displayed in you normal launcher window. You can change the category by selecting and holding the short cut until the menu appears and choosing "Category"

LauncherX - LauncherX can search alternate paths. The default setup includes the SD card. There is a bug with LauncherX where Virtual Pool Mobile will crash when started from LauncherX. Use the standard Palm Launcher to start Virtual Pool Mobile.

Facer - facer will find Virtual Pool Mobile from any storage medium. and place an icon in the main application page.

I'm getting a message that says "Not Enough Memory to Run Virtual Pool Mobile".  What should I do?

Virtual Pool Mobile needs close to 4MB of free program memory. You can try soft resetting your Palm and see if that frees enough memory. If not you may need a utility like UDMH to run Virtual Pool Mobile. UDMH is not endorsed or supported by Celeris  and  is a "use at your own risk" application.

My performance is poor. Is there anything I can do to increase frame rate?

Yes. A large frame rate increase can usually be achieved by turning off the room graphics. Go to Settings and set Room Graphics to Disable.

You can also try turning off the music. This may be especially helpful if running off an SD card or Memory Stick.

Why does Virtual Pool Mobile crash on launch from LauncherX?

There is a bug in LauncherX. Use the standard Palm Launcher to start Virtual Pool Mobile.

Why does Virtual Pool Mobile crash after the logo screen on my T3?

Your T3 does not have the DIA update installed. Download and install the prc files in this zip file: t3DIAupdate.zip (37 KB).

Virtual Pool Mobile does not run on my Clie. Is there anything I can do to get it working?

First make sure your Clie model is running Palm OS5 and has an ARM processor.

If you have an NX, NZ or TG Clie your sound system has an older API. You can upgrade your sound system at this site: http://www.aibohack.com/clie/modclieaud.htm.  Make sure your read all instructions on backup and installation. The MCA2 hack is not supported by Celeris in any way, and as the website cautions, it is very much a "use at your own risk" application.

Why is Virtual Pool Mobile resetting my LifeDrive when I  exit the game and  always asks for a registration key on startup?

There is a known issue with LifeKeys. Try this procedure:

  • Uninstall LifeKeys

  • Install Virtual Pool Mobile

  • Start up Virtual Pool Mobile and register

  • Exit Virtual Pool Mobile

  • Reinstall LifeKeys

Virtual Pool Mobile does not run on my Zodiac. Is there anything I can do to get it working?

You need an aftermarket launcher like ZLauncher that allows you to start in a portrait orientation. The stock Zodiac launcher will not do this.

Game Operation

Will playing Virtual Pool Mobile damage my Palm screen?

We recommend you use a screen protector for you Palm even if you don't play Virtual Pool Mobile. Screen protectors are cheap and prevent scratching the screen with the stylus. They come in model specific sizes or universal trim to fit.  Some are more sticky when sliding the stylus than others. A smooth thin protector will work better for stroking the cue. You don't need to press hard to hit the ball so just relax and use a light pressure.

How do I pause the game, save games, get help, etc. during game play?

Press the top button (in landscape) to bring up the In Game menu. Select "Put on Hold" to save your game.

I can't seem to hit the cue ball.  What am I doing wrong?

The proper method for hitting the cue ball is as follows:

  1. With the stylus, press the "Aim/Shoot" button.

  2. Place the tip of the stylus on the wood part of the cue stick.  At this time, the wood part of the cue stick will get much brighter to let you know that you are 'holding' the cue stick.  Continue to apply pressure to the stylus.

  3. Drag the stylus back and then forward to and through the cue ball.  The cue stick should follow the movement of the stylus and strike the ball.  It is important to make sure that the stylus remains in contact with the screen during the entire stroke.

Why do I select buttons sometimes when I'm stroking the cue?

You are probably trying to hit the ball hard and lifting the stylus.  Slow down some and keep the stylus on the screen. You don't need to press hard, just go a little slower.

What can I do to control cue ball speed better?

Make longer smooth strokes. Stroke through the cue ball, don't hit at it.

What am I doing wrong when I try to shoot sometimes nothing happens?

That is caused by grabbing the cue tip instead of the cue stick. When touching the cue tip, the ferrule (the white part) gets brighter. This is how you move the cut tip to apply spin.  To shoot the ball, you should touch the stylus further away (toward the butt end of the cue stick) on the wooden part.  The entire cue stick will get brighter when you grab the cue.

I'm playing a career and it's too hard or too easy. Is there a way to set difficulty?

Career mode has 4 skill levels: Easy, Medium, Hard, and Good Luck. Choose the appropriate skill level for your ability. All of the early opponent play pretty poorly and the later opponents all play pretty good. The easier skill levels will spot you more games and the better players will take it easy but they still play well (there supposed to be good).

What are the numbers next to the computer player names in Quick Play?

Those are the player ratings where 1000 is very poor and 2000 is very good. You can pick the guy that matches up well with your skill level.
