Annoying problem or bug in VP4 (+POSSIBLE SOLUTION)

Post by papagaya »

Hey. I just bought VP4 and I'm getting a really annoying problem. On each shot I do myself or the opponents, just at the moment when the cue is going to hit the ball, the game freezes for about half or a quarter of a second. It may sound very short time, but confuses a lot and is quite annoying when you are moving the mouse to make the shot.

Does this happen to anyone else?. How can I fix it?.

Windows 7 SP1 64-bit
Intel Core i7 3600K
16 GB DDR3
2x240GB OCZ Vertex 3 RAID0 for OS and installations.
Gigabyte GeForce GTX590.
-----------------------------------------------
SOLUTION (At least for me)
After some tests turning off vertical sync solved the problem. It also appears to limit the framerate at 75 fps, meanwhile now I'm getting 800-900 fps.

Same problem here

Win7 64bit
AMD phenom 2 X4 @ stock 2.8GHz
4GB DDR3
Radeon 4870 1GB

Quite irritating, ruins the feeling on the shot.

Same problem here. It's like a hickup on each shot, as if you were closing your eyes with the stroke.
Config: laptop with I3 processor and Geforce 425M graphics, 4 Gig RAM. Windows 7 64bits. SSD.
I tried lowering the graphics, to no avail. I also got the 'user preference data damaged' error at install but managed to get through and play.

That is mostly annoying because the game rocks ! Can't wait to find a solution.
Thanks in advance.

Maybe found something.. it's not happening on really slow shots? I get the delay only when shooting with some pace. Or does the slow shot only just "hide" the bug?

Somehow it seems that the cue suddenly stops right before touching the cueball, for a split second. Or this is what it looks like. What could actually happen might be: the movement of visible cue stops but the "game engine cue" still goes on for a little while as you push mouse forward and then hits the cueball..?

I confirm it's happening regardless of the in-game configuration. I tried all settings, also mouse related. I tried with the onboard graphics I have on my laptop, as well as on the dedicated card (425M). Tried with different camera settings, tried with a mickey mouse mask on and a banana... well, the stutter remains.

On a more joyful note, the table and the balls feel perfect, the difficulty of the default tournament table settings is very satisfying and challenging, at least for me :)
Just this stutter, please help.

I use a Logitech M215, no Logitech-software installed as there's non button or other refinements. Could you use a video of a game with FRAPS o see the actual stutter occuring? I might try that.
Thanks

Logitech M505 (optical wireless, same mouse works perfect with VP3)

Again... Im not 100% but seemed like the "lag" is worse when you play the game on windowed mode (the only way to play the game correctly :) ). On full screen mode the lag seemed to be a little shorter in my case.

I thought also of frapsing the problem but if You Nam are going for it Im not bothering :)

Also I think I noticed that when I watch a replay of a shot, theres no lag. It just happens when youre shooting.

Yes a fraps would help.
Can you try playing with your mouse settings, or let me know if logitech does not provide that. When I say settings, not referring to the standard Windows settings, but something that Logitech supplies

If someone could fix this bug and allow the usage of VSync I'll appreciate... VSync off causes A LOT of screen flickering. Refresh rates synched with your frames per second offers much better viewing.

Yeah, that is irritating. I'll have to think about this one. May need to to run a special version to get more debug info.

Since the solution is not valid for everyone i've changed the title.
My shots keep stuttering with both vertical sync settings.
I had to restart the game after disabling v-sync (in the game settings). After that voila!

I just tried unplugging my mouse (Logitech, with no software) and used the synaptics trackpad : same problem, logic as it also affects the AI opponent.

I have this problem too, it's impossible to play like this, I have gone back to VP3 until this is fixed.

I have Razer Mamba, but it's not a mouse problem, this still happens when using tracking lines and pressing space bar. When the tip touches the cueball, there is always a delay. This problem reduces when turning off everything in graphics card settings. The problem got worse when enabling Anti Aliasing and vsync. So perhaps the graphics card is too slow? Or the CPU?
Using the lowest resolution in VP4 didn't help.

This problem is a little puzzling. I doubt it is related to system performance or graphics, what I saw on the video does not look like that is the issue.
Try setting your sound volume for both the Music and Sound Effects to 0 and see if that changes anything.
