Another Bug

Post by sharkey9 »

I was playing a frame of Snooker, only the last 3 colors left on the table.
The Comp had a bad leave quite on the edge of the middle pocket but the blue was free to hit.
He completely missed it 3 times in a row and the game did not call the frame lost.

Only a loss if a direct hit was possible.

It was.

Even if "snookered" by a cushion, according to the official rules, a ball can not be snookered by a cushion.

Sharkey is correct.

A snooker is not a snooker when

The cue-ball cannot be snookered by a cushion. If the curved face of a cushion obstructs the cue-ball and is closer to the cue-ball than any obstructing ball not on, the cue-ball is not snookered.

Thats the official rule on when its not a snooker.

There's one exception in the foul and miss rule:

"...the referee shall call FOUL AND A MISS, unless:
(i) any player needed penalty points before, or as a result of, the stroke being played"

Could it be that this was the case?

Yes that was the case.

After his third miss he needed snookers and I got the options to play or let him play. Correct so far for that special rule.
But nonetheless he missed three times so the frame should have been lost.

Then your saying that on the third foul your opponent was now needing snookers...so the AI referee called the incident correctly cos as soon as opponent was in snooker required position the third foul would not result in automatic loss of the frame.

It is therefor not correct to say he missed 3 times and he should have lost the frame,in this case.

Are you sure?
A referee would warn the player after a second miss.
He didn't need snookers after miss #2 but after he missed his 3rd attempt.

Or are you saing a loss of the frame only occurs when a ref calls 3 times "foul and a miss".
That would be clear then because she would not call the third attempt a "miss" because of the snookers required exception. Even if he technically missed 3 times...

After the third miss he was then in snookers required status so the referee cannot call it 3 fouls loss of frame.
The fact is that the only way for it to be loss of frame if it were that he was not needing snookers after he'd played the third attempt and in this case he was needing snookers.Simple explanation and correct in this instance.

Alright, thanks for clarification.
No bug but good programming.

Never ever came across that situation and that's more than 20 years now. Oh well, you'll never know...

Once and a while we get it right. But in the case of the Foul and Miss, I can't tell you how many problems there have been. That rule has damaged my sanity. Never let the British write rules ever again.

Steve you might think your sanity has been damaged, but you, Celeris and Snooker In VP4 will no longer be humiliated by not having the correct rules.
For 16 years or more youve had to bear the shame of being just an American that didnt really bother that much about having correct rules in certain games to someone who by rights has the best Billiard sim on the Planet(for now).Your reputation in the eyes of world snooker players and faith have been fully restored, that you finally got it right in the end. Finally the label of just being numpties that know nothing about Snooker and having it on a 12 foot Pool table with diamonds cos you couldnt be bothered to get a proper snooker table will all be erased by what you have done and at last achieved.

You can lift your head and be proud in what you have done, you have restored my faith in some Americans, you have listened to what the people have said and have done what was asked of you.
The Virtual world of snooker now has the proper game the proper table(although i still say you should have worked on the ball rails for each pocket as that would have finished the table off nicely)but most importantly of all,at least we got the correct rules implemented.

I'm not including the Scots, they can write all the rules they want as they are too drunk to write anything as complicated as Foul and Miss. I think their rule would be titled Miss and Fight.
