Getting booted from GSA only during tournaments

Post by Sophisticated Beggar »

It seems that I am being booting (by someone or something) on a consistent basis every night a few minutes before every tournement I enter and during the tournaments by either some-one or something.

NOTHING has changed on my PC set-up and has been happening for about a week or so.

I cannot log back in unless I reset my cable router and my PC which takes over the 10 minute boot rule.

It may be something due to GSA 2.0.5 but since it came out everything has been fine - apart from the last 2 weeks.

I have been in GSA in away mode for hours with no effect and as soon as the fixtures are about to be drawn I get booted. And get booted consistently during the tournaments until I'm beaten, then I can stay as long as I want.

This is so annoying, its taking away the pleasure in entering tournaments (and messes with my concentration) so therefore I withdraw from all tournaments entered and will not be playing in any in the future unless a solution is found.

As I only play VP3 during tournaments (and only in tournements) it seems this is the end for VP3 for me, again until something is resloved.

That's really weird.
Doesn't sound like it's something to do with gsa though (as crap as it may be) because it doesn't know when the fixtures will be drawn etc.

Does anybody else have this problem? Do we have a hacker?

The router I use is not a router like you think, its just a modem really, there is no port forwarding or any software to control it at all.
It's purely a surfboard that connects 'Cable' to LAN/USB.
I have used it for years. With a 20 MB connection as well, this has driven me nuts. I'm going to format in a few days and I'll take it from there/then.

You do get booted frequently Hugh, you always have done. But you can get back in within seconds.

Before formatting, I'd advise you to do a virus scan, and scans with spybot and ad-aware. A log done by Hijackthis is also useful. I can go through it for you and see if there's something wrong. My mail is in my signature.

I dont get booted from gsa frequently at all.

The odd occasion I do thats purely a GSA thing.

There is no pattern to it like your saying your problem is.I put it down to an instability in the GSA software.thats all.
Have you got an older modem in which you could try connecting with that for a few days and see what happens then,>>??

Have you tried uninstalling GSA fully and clearing any registry files too, then doing a clean install of the latest version of GSA again.

I presume when your getting booted you dont lose your internet connection completely as if your modem was rebooting???Your only getting kicked from GSA?

I'd say you should also quit the bad language and the porn links spamming in the lobby... Chat monitor is all mighty :P
I also have problems when I use my p2p client... but not on a regular pattern...
And it's right, if you don't lose the connection at all, I'd try to make a clean install of gsa.
Does this happen only if you're refreshing the fixtures page? Does this happen if you don't have the tournament page opened in gsa?

I have done and do this regularly anyway.

There is a pattern. Like I already said I have been in GSA all day on away mode, and minutes before the fixtures are drawn I get booted, sometimes I get back in by doing an 'ipconfig/release' and then 'renew'.
I don't get the chance to hit the fixtures link.
It's only GSA that I'm booted from, if I have a VP3 room open that's ok - my connection is fine. - Yes I have re-installed everything and cleaned things up.

I'm due to re-format anyway so thats not really an issue.

Back to the pattern - I get the message 'The connection to GSA has been lost, attempting to re-connect' comes up just before the fixtures are draw (no other programs running or even the GSA browser) - I am forced to exit GSA and return. On returning I can type in lobby but no-one can see me, nor can I see anyone else's text. After starting my match, I am continually getting booted like this until I am out of the tournament. Then everything is fine. I have tested this on many occasions and just find it incredible.

For it to happen once is normal crappy GSA, twice is annoying. Three times is suspicious, but now on about the 5th or 6th time - its a waste of my time even playing.

From being able to set-up and play normally before and after tournaments is highly irregular.

I have at times not said or pasted anything - its nothing to do with chatmonitor.

I have also done tests using different profiles and it all points to one thing.

I hate to just presume and say we have a hacker, but it wouldn't be the 1st time its happened with this community and being a fairly logical person from an engineering background, I cannot find any other logical theories.

If it's a hacker, there should be a trace of him in you firewall log, I believe. Mayve check that and also maybe just at the time of a tourney. Did you try raising up the level of protection of your firewall? Are you familiar with proxies (ex: Proximitron).. this could help too, if I'm not mistaken.

that sounds if someone is "flooding" your IP with requests, maybe pings. (renewing IP helps, thats an indicator)
check your firewall if theres a setting like "dont respond to ping requests" or something like that.
furthermore, some hardware router between your cable modem and your network card would be a good choice.

I used to have problems with some of my profiles and found, that it were those with a high number of people on my players list.
Often when certain people came online I would get lag.

I could get rid of that by changing Gamespy Playerspy Options.
There is a checkbox called 'Paranoia'. If you check the box old playerspy messages get purged, which makes GS use less network resources.
Maybe try that.
