The Ipad is mainly a content delivery device. It is excellent for watching movies, video podcasts and other streaming media. It also does well at surfing the web, as a book/magazine reader and as a game playing device.
People criticize it because it isn't enough like a computer or enough like a phone. It wasn't designed to be either. It is its own unique device that does what it was designed to do very well.
