Pivot Aiming in VP4

Post by thatdarndragon »

Is there any way to change the pivot point? The description claims that the pivot point is at the point of the bridge but if you zoom out and change english, the pivot point is much closer to the joint of the cue. Maybe 6-7 inches.

Changing the pivot point to the actual bridge point would be preferable to me as this would change the aim of the shot as well as the amount of english.

The pivot point is slightly behind the pivot point for the shaft based on its deflection. We don't have an interface to modify it.

Any chance of adding this feature in the future to allow realistic pivot aiming?

Adjusting it might be nice though I'm not sure why you think this is not realistic. The pivot is at where the pivot matches the deflection, and it is not a 6 or 7 inches, none of the cues deflect that much, it varies but all of them are much longer than that. Our cues have a little less deflection that RL, so the pivot point is back quite far. I think you better zoom out and examine where the cue pivots, it is not where you think it is.

I have re-examined and zoomed out and in. Attempted to make a video of this but the video only seems to capture shots in action.

It seems that on different shafts/cues the pivot point ranges between a few inches past the joint toward the tip and as far back as in the points. In either case it's not anywhere near where your bridge would be.

The reason I seek this as a feature is that this is how I aim many shots in RL when applying sidespin. Pivoting at the bridge hand.

I realize that many would not find this useful, and possibly confusing, but there are a great many players that use this method and find it a very desirable option.

Here's a youtube clip of what I'm talking about:

Hope this helps

Yes, the pivot point is further back. Mainly because we took some of the deflection out. We also moved it back a little more as the pivot point for the deflection point requires a very high speed shot to aim correctly because the ball curves back. Pivot point aiming is never going to work perfectly in VP or in RL because the cue ball curves.

I realize this. My point (wish) is that it could play as identically imperfect as it does in RL.
