OK,

Here's the situation..the account has been suspended because £135.10 is outstanding.

Unfortunately I'm not able to pay that amount off myself so if we want to keep the tournament system we're going to have to club together on this one and pay for it between us.

There are two options as I see it at the moment:

1. Pay for the hosting.

2. Go with a new host and leave the bill unpaid. This way though I'd have to re-create the database because obviously I couldn't download the existing one. I'm not sure if I even have a local copy of the database so I might even have to look at the code to remember what the tables and fields should be. Also, all player and tournament data would be lost.

Some money would also need to be paid for the first month of hosting for this (probably about £20 / $20/ 20EUR).

Here is a link if you want to donate anything. I'll keep this post updated with the total amount donated so far.

Right I've got a very generous donation of £100 from hugh. I'm willing to donate £10 myself so that will leave £25 needed.

Thanks

How do you feel about the fact that it's always the same people who donate?

Just received a donation of £25 from bri. Because I've donated £10.10, that's the full balance paid. Of course the hosting will still need to be paid for again in the future, so don't let this stop you donating!

Now for the bad news. I'm having trouble contacting the hosting company (http://www.yorknetworks.com) - they are not responding to either emails or phone calls. Therefore, until I can get hold of them the http://www.vphqtournaments.com address still won't work.

There is a temporary address http://vphqtournaments.com.tempwww.com/ which does work. However, none of the links down the side work. Instead, you will have to visit the homepage and use the links displayed there for the time being.

I will keep you updated on any progress.

Hello,

I believe the payments are annual and it jumped from 130+ to 230+ because this years payment is due as well as last years. I'm not absolutely sure about this though so i've sent an email to them (unfortunatley they can be slow replying).

If we move to another server, I first need to get the database off the existing server which I don't currently know how to access (registering the server in enterprise manager which I use in the connection string doesn't work), so I've emailed them about this as well.

Finally, the domain name has expired (which is why no page is displayed) and I've emailed them about this as well to see if paying the outstanding bill will get that renewed.

I will keep you posted when I know some more information.

Thanks

Simon

The reply I've received is below the dashed line.

So basically once we've paid, everything should be OK again and I can connect to the database and make changes to it / back it up etc.

Hi simon,

The hosting is for 1 year, once renewed the domain will come back online.

To manage the database remotely we need to add your static IP to our firewall. You can then use sql server management studio to manage the database. An express version can be downloaded from microsoft.com

Best wishes, Sarah

I think making a backup of the database regularly would be a good idea in case of problems like this in the future. I assume that you already have the site source backed up, so atleast if it does go down again, then we could always host elsewhere temporarily/permanently.

I've got the source code backed up, but the database I can't get access to at the moment.
So if to deploy elsewhere, I'd have to sort of reverse engineer the database, plus all the data would be lost.

Have you received any funding yet?
How much is still open to pay?

Hi,
No nothing as of yet.
I can't understand why everybody is so tight - maybe it's the recession.

Cant believe he put that he has received "nothing as of yet" yet when you look above i see a few donations including a large contribution from hugh. Why is it taking so long????

Maybe the management of the tourney system should be given to someone that can actually look after it to prevent it going down every year or so due to non-payment.

Your just a wee bit confused Ron...this post is over 2 years old originally and the earlier posts up top are from the last time.

However donations are in and we now have anough, the bill has been paid cos the system is back up and running again.
